Property Appraisal

Appraisals

An appraisal is different than a home inspection. A home inspection is to determine the condition of a home. The appraisal is to determine the value of the home. When you get a mortgage to buy a home in most cases the lender will want to appraise the property to make sure you are not overpaying.

Government loans such as FHA, VA, and USDA have separate appraisal requirements. Please reference these specific categories on our website for more specifics. However, it's important to note that on government loans the appraiser is also doing an inspection to make sure the property meets government minimum requirements. This is a completely separate process from your home inspection.
